China Embraces AI-Powered Shampooing Machines
A growing number of hair salons in China are embracing a new wave of technology with the introduction of AI-powered shampooing machines. Promising to wash and rinse clients’ hair in just 13 minutes, these machines are quickly becoming a popular choice among salon-goers, sparking what some have dubbed an “AI-shampooing craze” across the nation.
How It Works
According to reports from various Chinese news outlets, these AI-driven devices have recently appeared in hair salons throughout Guangzhou Province. Utilizing infrared sensors, they can detect the user’s scalp and customize the shampooing method and product based on individual hair types.
As described by a hair salon owner in Tianhe District, the machines come equipped with several built-in washing modes including speed wash, normal, extra time, and water shower, along with three scalp massage intensity settings. Additionally, they feature specific modes tailored for clients with long or short hair.
Rising Popularity and Mixed Reviews
The initial cost for an AI shampooing session was 9.9 yuan ($1.35), but demand has driven the price up to 19 yuan ($2.60). With each session taking only 13 minutes, many customers are finding the service appealing.
However, user reviews have been mixed. While some patrons praise the convenience, others have expressed dissatisfaction. Complaints have ranged from concerns about the intensity of the scalp massage to issues with cleanliness. One user on Weibo remarked, “I tried it and it’s useless, my scalp hurts,” while another said, “It just sprays bubbles and rinses with water, but it can’t even reach the back of my head.”
Despite the critiques, many agree that at this price point, giving AI shampooing machines a try is certainly worthwhile.
