World’s Highest Bridge: Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge Set to Open in 2025
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, rising 625 meters above the Beipan River in China’s Guizhou Province, is poised to claim the title of the world’s highest bridge upon its completion in the second half of 2025. This architectural marvel highlights China’s ongoing commitment to infrastructural innovation in one of the country’s most rugged terrains.
A Record-Setting Legacy in Guizhou
Guizhou Province is renowned for its challenging landscape, which has earned it the distinction of hosting more than half of the world’s top 100 tallest bridges. This year marks a historic moment for the province, as it is set to reclaim the title of having the world’s highest bridge for the third consecutive time. The Beipanjiang Guanxing Bridge first claimed the title in 2003, followed by the Beipanjiang Duge Bridge in 2016, and now the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is ready to take the honor.
Construction Progress and Community Impact
Construction began on January 18, 2022, with current progress reaching an impressive 95%. According to Zhang Shenglin, chief engineer of Guizhou Highway Group, “This super project spanning the ‘Earth Crack’ will be the world’s first to operate in both directions.” The bridge will not only provide a stunning addition to the landscape but will also significantly reduce travel time across the canyon from one hour to just one minute.
In addition to serving as a vital transport link, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is set to become a major tourist attraction. Local authorities plan to include visitor-friendly amenities such as a glass elevator, stargazing bar, and a glass-floored observation area to offer breathtaking views. Furthermore, it will feature the world’s highest bungee jump site, adding a thrilling experience for adventure-seekers.
The grand opening of the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is scheduled for June 30, 2025, promising to be a key milestone in global engineering and infrastructure.
