Tragedy Strikes as Woman Arrested for Poisoning Attempt on Ex-Boyfriend’s New Partner
In a shocking incident that has devastated a family in northern Brazil, a woman has been arrested for allegedly attempting to murder her ex-boyfriend’s new partner by sending poisoned chocolate eggs as an Easter gift. This tragic event highlights the dark consequences of jealousy and revenge.
The Poisoning Incident
The nightmare began on April 16, when a courier delivered an anonymous package to Miriam Lira’s home in Imperatriz, Maranhão. The package, adorned with a note reading “With love, to Miriam Lira. Happy Easter,” contained chocolate eggs. Unaware of the impending danger, Miriam shared these treats with her two children, 7-year-old Luis Fernando and 13-year-old Evelyn Fernanda.
Hours later, the family found themselves racing to the emergency room due to severe illness. Sadly, despite the medical staff’s valiant efforts, Luis Fernando passed away on April 17 due to multiple organ failure. Tragically, Evelyn succumbed to similar complications five days later. Miriam, who was hospitalized in a coma, expressed her profound grief and determination to seek justice for her children.
The Arrest and Investigation
Authorities quickly apprehended the prime suspect, 36-year-old Jordelia Pereira Barbosa, who allegedly traveled hundreds of miles to execute her malicious plot. Motivated by jealousy, Barbosa held Lira responsible for the breakup with her ex-boyfriend. Investigators revealed they had crucial evidence, including CCTV footage capturing Barbosa purchasing the eggs in disguise.
“The investigation has been thorough, and we have pieced together a timeline from the moment she arrived in the city to when she bought the Easter eggs,” said homicide detective Alana Lima. “We have footage from the security cameras and other records that are essential for the case.”
Barbosa was arrested as she disembarked from a bus in Santa Inês, approximately 240 miles from Imperatriz. Police seized wigs, chocolate residue, and a bus ticket from her, substantiating suspicions against her. Although she has confessed to buying the eggs, Barbosa denies any intent to harm Lira and her family.
The investigation continues, with experts analyzing the chocolate samples to determine if they contained poison. The initial findings and the forthcoming autopsy results will play critical roles in the case.
