Uniben Student Drowns to Death during Signing Out Celebration

UNIBEN graduating student drowns while celebrating final exam. Class Rep and Final Year Executives arrested by the Police.

A final year microbiology student of the University of Benin, Edo State, Taiye Peter James also simply called TJ, is dead.

It was gathered from our sources that he went on an outing on Thursday, July 8th, with his course mates to celebrate writing their final year last paper at a resort in Benin City, Edo State, when he drowned.

According to a reliable source, the uniben student was swimming at the resort’s pool but no one noticed when he swam to the deepest part of the pool. The source said, “While a lot of people were swimming at the shallow end of the pool, he went to swim at the deep end and because no one was paying attention to that area, they didn’t notice he had drowned.

After they brought him out, they tried resuscitating him to no avail and he was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, the resort was very far from the hospital. The first hospital they got to referred him to another hospital. The car in which he was conveyed in also had a terrible accident on the way, their car was totally wrecked.

Fortunately, there were other cars going with them so another car took him to the last hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The police got involved and arrested other uniben students – the Course rep and most of the final year brethren committee excos.

As of July 9th, they are still in custody since the incident happened and the police are trying to blame it on them. We also have heard from an anonymous source that the police have agreed to release them on N250,000 bail. “Nobody knew when he went to the deep, they only wanted to celebrate their last papers”, a source said.
