Tor Tiv of Benue State Appointed Chancellor of the Univeristy of Benin

The traditional ruler of the Tiv People, His Royal Majesty, Tor Tiv has been appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as the Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN). The appointment came on the 9th of July 2021, as the President of Nigeria made the pronouncement in the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

The New Chancellor is to succeed the former Emir of Kano and immediate past Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria – Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.

Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, on behalf of his family, the Government, and the people of Benue State, has congratulated the Tor Tiv, His Royal Majesty, Professor James Ayatse on his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari as Chancellor, University of Benin.

The Governor in a statement by Terver Akase, his Chief Press Secretary described Tor Tiv’s appointment as well deserved.

The statement quoted the Governor as saying that the appointment ”states that the wealth of experience of the Paramount Ruler of the Tiv nation, Tor Tiv, as former Vice-Chancellor, University of Agriculture, Makurdi and Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, Dutsin-Ma in Katsina State, will immensely benefit the University of Benin.”

He also commended President Buhari for the appointment of the Tor Tiv and expresses the hope that more Benue sons and daughters will be given key appointments at the federal level.
