It has been reported that a total of 32 corps members who served in Lagos in the 2020 Batch ‘A’ will have their national service extended or repeated as punitive measures over their misconducts.
Eddy Megwa, the state coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), broke the news during the passing out parade of 5,720 corps members on Thursday, the 18th of February, 2021.

The state coordinator also announced that one Mr Oluwatimilehin Adegbite would get a state merit award for his exceptional performance.
He also commended the Batch ‘A’ 2020 corps members, whom he described as ‘Pandemic Batch’, noting that most of them behaved well.

According to him, corps members in the batch spent only 11 days in camp before they were ordered home by NYSC due to the coronavirus pandemic.
He said, “In spite of that, most of them showed resilience. This 2020 Batch ‘A’ corp members are very unique, they really distinguished themselves individually and as a set. I am highly impressed with their general performance,” he said.
“Even when the nation shut down because of coronavirus and we directed them to go home and work virtually, most of them were still eager to work.
“They started producing hand sanitisers, anti-bactaria handwash, face masks. I am proud to say that corps members in Lagos State made visible impacts in all the LGAs”.

The coordinator additionally stated that some corps members donated their allowances to get palliatives for indigent people during the heat of pandemic period.
He furthermore advised those who learned skills to make the best use of them in the absence of white-collar jobs.
